Kaia Kater is a JUNO Award-winning Grenadian Canadian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose voice and artistry have earned acclaim across North America and beyond. Born in Montreal and shaped by her rich cultural heritage, Kater blends folk, Americana, Appalachian old-time music and contemporary roots traditions into a deeply expressive sound marked by jazz-influenced vocals, masterful banjo playing, and evocative storytelling.
Her albums, from early releases like Old Soul and Nine Pin to her JUNO Award-winning Strange Medicine, explore themes of identity, history and resilience with emotional depth and musical sophistication. Her work has been celebrated by outlets like Rolling Stone, NPR, and The Guardian, and she has toured internationally, performing at festivals and venues including the Newport Folk Festival and the Kennedy Center. Beyond the stage, Kater expands her creative reach into film and television composition, earning a Canadian Screen Award for her original work on The Porter.
